With spring right around the corner, I know many of you are getting ready to shake off those snow boots, hang up the winter coats, and see the magic of spring burst to life. Spring is also a wonderful time to update yearly portraits of your kiddos. I know many of us often imagine wildflower poses, floral props, bright colors, and sunny backdrops, but oftentimes the old saying holds true: April showers really do bring May flowers. With the unpredictable spring weather, it got me thinking about a cute theme for spring minis in-studio. That way families won’t have to worry about rescheduling due to inclement weather.

Back in 2015, the rainy days inspired me, and I thought, “What if I could bring the rainy day inside?!” We all know that nothing is cuter than little ones decked out in rainboots, raincoats, and mini matching umbrellas. So, I came up with this adorable backdrop: oversized raindrops cascading in a blue ombré pattern. The theme is simple and classic. The kids donning their rainy-day attire really do make the pictures. I always love how they come out, and watching the little ones try to maneuver an umbrella keeps me laughing. The session may be for the kids, but they are fun for everyone involved—even those who are just watching on the sidelines.

These photos are of my daughter four years ago, but so many people have asked us to recreate the set, so we are doing just that! Back by popular demand:
